Matt was one of only 2 folks to correctly guess the Brooklyn Americans. The 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs have been nothing short of spectacular this year;  The Canadiens unlikely run past the powerhouse Caps & Penguins, the Flyers dramatic & historic comeback against Boston, and the rise of Blackhawk behemoth Dustin “Buff” Byfuglien, have all led up to what will surely be a Finals for the ages.  All of the action starts this Saturday in Chicago and it’s going to be INSANE!!!

Before I forget, we do have a winner from Tuesday’s puzzle.  Bob Barlow correctly guessed the Buffalo Sabres, and had his name picked in the drawing.  Congrats Bob!   It seemed as if we were going to stump many of you as the first two people incorrectly guessed the Oakland Seals and New York Rangers before the majority chimed in with Buffalo.

NORDIQUE MAGNIFIQUE

I feel like I’ve stepped into a time machine.   Images of Bobby Clarke and Stan Mikita skate by my eyes.  Bernie Parent and Tony Esposito are minding the nets, and Mr. Schultz is at home in the penalty box.  Ok, it’s not 1970 something, and the names have changed to Richards, Leighton, Toews & Buff, but that same feeling is there – OLD SCHOOL TEAMS PLAYING OLD SCHOOL HOCKEY! Heck, my old Coleco table hockey set with metal players has the Flyers & Blackhawks on it!  Classic teams – Cassic Final!  We’ll keep the Distant Replays contests classic too.

The winner of this past Monday’s “Guess The NHL Logo” contest picked the Quebec Nordiques (so far all I know is her name is Krystle, and I’ve e-mailed her that she won) and had her name drawn from the first ten customers to have guessed correctly, and therefore Krystle wins a FREE Original Retro Brand NHL T-Shirt of her choice.  Congrats Krystle!  Only one person guessed incorrectly in picking the Washington Capitals, so ya’ll are getting better at this.  Let’s try another puzzle piece, shall we?   Here it is….

W-INNERS

Yep, the Canadiens finally broke through with their first win over the Flyers in the NHL Eastern Conference Finals last night, and Kevinnick Pong of Quebec, Canada, is the winner of Wednesday’s installment of  the Distant Replays “Guess The NHL Logo” contest.  Well done Canada!

Just in time for The Canadiens & Mr. Pong I might add.  A loss at home surely would have meant the end (another team coming back from 3 games to zero in the playoffs seriously unlikely) for Montreal, and Kevinnick was the ONLY person to guess the puzzle piece correctly and the last person to enter.  He is lucky because I was just about to post a second puzzle piece for this contest thinking we would not have a winner.  Alas, Kevinnick did get his correct guess of the Hartford Whalers in at the bell, and is the winner of a FREE Original Retro Brand NHL T-shirt of his choice.  Everybody else guessed the Minnesota Wild incorrectly.  Got some good comments like “Definitely the Wild. Not fooled…” (fooled!), and “Minnesota Wild! It’s gotta be!!” (Isn’t!). I take pride in stumping ya’ll, but I guess I’ll just have to try again.  Congrats Kevinnick, and here’s my next try:

ZERO TEETH

The Philadelphia Flyers have been used to seeing ZERO’S lately.  After being down 3 games to ZERO, and down 3 goals to ZERO to the Bruins in game 7 of the conference semi’s before their historic series winning comeback, they now find themselves up 2 games to ZERO, after shutting out the Canadiens 6 to ZERO, and 3 to ZERO to start off the Eastern Conference Stanley Cup Finals.  Goalie Michael Leighton and the “NEW” Broad Street Bullies obviously have major momentum.  However, it certainly wouldn’t behoove the Flyers to think they’ve got this baby wrapped up (ask Bruins about 2-0 leads) and heading to Montreal for a pair, I doubt they’ll be writing off the Canadiens who’ve pulled off a few miracles of their own to get to this point.

ZERO TOLERENCE

The Blackhawks jumped out to a 3 to ZERO lead before winning 4-2 in the Shark Tank last night, and have won an incredible 7 straight road playoff games including the pair against the Sharks to start the Western Conference Finals.  So now that you’re clear the Flyers and Blackhawks are showing ZERO tolerance, let’s ZERO in on the last, and latest puzzle piece in the “Guess The NHL Logo” contest….

After ZERO people guessed the puzzle piece from last Friday correctly, we had to add a second puzzle piece on Monday’s post in hopes of finding a winner for a FREE Original Retro Brand NHL T-Shirt.  Well, after the second puzzle piece was added, only 1 of 19 people guessed it wrong (one dude guessed old school Canucks), so we do have a winner: Marti Fleming had her name drawn out of the first 10 folks who guessed correctly and she is the lucky winner.  Marti said, “Calgary Flames, I think?”  She think right, and we’ll be sending the very cool Toronto Maple Leaf polo style shirt she’s chosen pronto!  Now it’s time for the next puzzle piece….

WASN'T US

The Flyers and Canadiens accomplishments to get to the NHL’s Conference finals, will forever go down in NHL lore as part of the most incredible, improbable, and most amazing runs ever to a Stanley Cup Championship (if one of them wins!).  Last night, Philly didn’t have to come from behind for a change, as they crushed the Habs in game one of their Eastern Conference matchup, cooling off sizzling hot Montreal keeper Jaroslav Halak with 4 goals on 14 shots enroute to a 6-0 victory.  The Blakchawks outlasted the Sharks 2-1, in San Jose in the Western Finals first game, and ghosts of “leaving the playoffs early” past, are already making their presence known to the men in teal.

The Canadiens and the Sharks weren’t  the only folks to walk away without a win this weekend, as nobody was able to win a FREE Original Retro Brand NHL T-Shirt by guessing the puzzle piece correctly in this past Friday’s Distant Replays “Guess The NHL Logo’ contest.  It’s a rarity when we stump our most very knowledgeable customers, but it has been done!  We had the majority of people guessing the Boston Bruins, with a couple of Blackhawks and one for the Capitals….ALL WRONG.  Therefore, behold the second & final puzzle piece for this entry:

JUST DUCKY

Incredibly, the Philadelphia Flyers can become just the third team in NHL history to come from a 3-0 game deficit to win a Stanley Cup Playoff series (The 1942 Maple Leafs and 1975 Islanders the other two).  Of course they will have to accomplish this on Boston soil, and the Bruins didn’t simply give away game 6 as they out-shot the Flyers, hit a few off the post, and ran into a hot goalie named Michael Leighton.  Regardless of the outcome, by evening’s end the Stanley Cup Conference Finals puzzle will be complete, and get underway this Sunday.

We have two other puzzles that need mentioning; 1) William Evans of Irving, Texas, is the latest winner of a FREE NHL Original Retro Brand T-Shirt, for having his name drawn from the first group of 10 customers who correctly guessed the Anaheim Ducks puzzle piece, from Wednesday’s “Guess The NHL Logo” Contest.
