SEC WINNER

The 2010 College World Series got under way this weekend, and things didn’t come up very sunny for the sunshine state with FSU & Florida going down respectively to TCU & UCLA.   In addition, the Sooners knocked off the Gamecocks and  the early talk favorite to win it all Sundevils , just got whacked 6 -3, by the  hot hitting Clemson Tigers in a make-up game for their Sunday rainout.  Not all was bleak for the SEC, as the winner of the first Distant Replays “Triple Play Trivia” contest comes from Tunnel Hill, Georgia.  Heath Frost correctly guessed all three questions, and had his name drawn as the winner of a FREE Distant Replays Branded T-shirt.  Even though he is a Georgia resident, Heath is an Alabama fan, and said he’ll be choosing one of these 2 shirts as his prize.  Congrats Heath!

If you’re just tuning in, the contest works like this: Every 3rd weekday on this blog throughout the College World Series, we will post a 3 – part trivia question (yes, a 3 – parter!).  The first 10 people to answer the questions correctly will be entered into a drawing for a FREE Distant Replays Branded T-shirt of their choice.* The first installment was last Wednesday, and here is the question again, along with the correct answers:

Every single person who participated in the contest guessed the answers correctly, which proves that either the Distant Replays customer flat out knows their College baseball history, the questions were too easy, or there’s a whole lotta Googlin’ goin’ on (and that’s ok).  Maybe todays’ installment will trip you up, and here it is:

Part of me fears I’ve been lobbing easy winners at ya’ll, as we had 5 contestants go 5 for 5 this past week! At the same time, 2 of the 5 games were decided in the last 30 seconds (Michigan vs. Michigan State, Wisconsin vs. Purdue), and the Jayhawks had to go to overtime to take out K-State.

Beating the 5-1 odds in the drawing this week to win a FREE Distant Replays Branded shirt was Richard Busch who we have notified and are awaiting which shirt he will choose.  We’ll be sure to post the winning shirt on our Distant Replays Facebook Fanpage.  Now it’s time to get down to business…

Week # 3 Class is now in session….

Game 1: # 10 Duke vs. # 21 Georgia Tech – The Blue Devils have dropped 3 of their last seven games, and the ACC title is up for grabs.  They look to make a statement at home Thursday night when they face the Yellow Jackets who have already beaten them this year.  As tough as Tech has been, I don’t see Duke being swept.  Statement will be delivered:  Blue Devils – 73, Yellow Jackets – 68.

Game 2: Florida vs. Alabama – Gators were rolling with 4 straight SEC wins including a a buzzer beater over the up & coming Gamecocks, followed by a convincing slam down over Georgia.  Had a shot at 5 straight with 16 seconds left against Tennessee, but couldn’t sink it (6 straight losses to the Vols).  Gators will right the ship on the road against Bama.  Gators – 72, Crimson Tide – 62.

DOWNEY SOFT (had to say it)

Game 3: Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina -Yep, nobody saw this coming…the Tarheels dumping 5 of their last 7 games including an embarrassing  rout at home by double digits to Virginia, and a possible invite to the NIT!  The Hokies recently beat the Cavs in Virginia, and are eager to jump on the beat up Carolina band wagon.  I think they will board that bus:  Hokies – 68, Tarheels – 66.

Game 4: # 14 Tennessee vs. South Carolina – Even though Vols coach Bruce Pearl has lost most of his squad to suspension, he’s still managed to put a very competitive squad on the floor.  The Gamecocks come in smelling blood as they look for their 3rd straight win.  With their epic triumph over Kentucky behind Devan Downey and his 22 points per game average, followed by another victory over a very good Georgia Bulldog team, I don’t think Rocky will be on Top after this one.  Gamecocks – 78, Volunteers – 70.
